How to use this site

Navigating the Site

The LSC-NET logo is always your quick link back to the home page. The navigation bar on the top of this page appears throughout the site. The larger links in the top row bring you to the major areas of the site. The smaller links in the bottom row let you contact us, update your contact and project info, add a new member to your team, and get quick information about using this site.

The colored menu items to the left of the screen show you the sub-areas of the section you are in, and let you drill down to a specfic content area. Once you have chosen the major area of the site (e.g. Library), you can then use the links to the left to choose the content area (e.g. Educational Reform & Policy, Professional Development, Teaching & Learning, or Papers & Reports.) Sometimes a tertiary menu will appear underneath the content area, showing you the subheaders within that area.

Searching the Site

You can search the entire site by using the Search link in the right hand menu on the home page. You can also search inside a specific content area by navigating to that area and then clicking on the Search magnifying glass icon at the top of the page, under the page heading.

Logging In and Out of the Site

There is a white oval button in the upper left corner of every screen that reads "Log Out" if you are logged in. If you are not logged in, the icon will read "Log In". You should always be logged in when visiting the site so that you can access all of the functionality that is only available to members.

It is a good idea to log out when you are finished with the site, especially if you share a computer with somone. When you come to the site you will be prompted to log in again. If you wish to skip logging in each time, you can select the "Stay logged-in all the time" option when you log in and as long as you never log out you will always be allowed right into the site without typing your user name.

Using the Main Areas of the Site

Communication Center

The Communication Center is a central database of all LSC projects and staff members. You can send mail to your project's staff and to collegues on any of the LSCs. You can also update your project information, add staff, and send requests to remove staff no longer on your project.

Here you can find projects and staff with common interests and constituencies and you have the option to send them e-mail or to save the results of your search. Search by any/all of the following: project name, person's name or title, project role, funding date, state, grade level, area of focus, geographic type, or general text search. If you choose to save the search as a personalized e-mail group then you can access that same group later on without having to redo the search.

Conferences

The Conferences section of the LSC-Net site contains links to the both the First and Second Virtual Conferences on Sustainablility of Local Systemic Change. There are also links to the Lessons Learned Conferences of 2000 and 2002, and there is also a section containing relevant presentations from various other conferences.

Projects Share

In this section of the website, you can read queries and replies, nuggets (good ideas), and bulletin board announcements posted by LSC-Net members. Go to the Bulletin Board to read current information of immediate interest to LSC members, such as upcoming events, conferences or other opportunities in the field of teacher enhancement or systemic reform. You can also participate in general discussions about topics of relevance to the LSCs.

Reports from the Field

In this collaborative area, LSC projects are invited to share project news, reports, case studies, and overviews about ongoing work. Newsclippings, Press Releases, resource materials such as storylines and professional development materials are all part of this area. We invite members to contribute materials to this section by using the "Post" link at the top of the page or by sending the materials to us by using the "Contact us" link at the top of any page.

Resources

Visit the Resources section to find out about upcoming conferences, search through the ERIC and the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse databases, and find links to organizations and Web sites of interest to the math and science reform community. You can search the entire section by using the seach link at the top of the page, and you are welcome to contribute links to this area by clicking on "Post".

Library

The library contains over 300 articles of interest to leaders engaged in local systemic change. These papers have been organized under four major themes: Educational Reform and Policy, Professional Development, Teaching and Learning, and LSC Papers and Reports. This valuable archive of papers can be searched by title, author, publication, and date (use the "Search" icon at the top of any Library page.) We invite you to submit papers or provide a URL to a paper already on the Web by clicking on the "Post" icon at the top of the Library page.
