Job Opening: Mathematics Staff Developer

The Hudson Public Schools, as part of a National Science Foundation grant, seeks an experienced staff developer to work with K-5 mathematics teachers. The project, Critical Mathematics and Science Synergy, or Critical MASS, engages teachers in a long-term professional development program to: enhance their knowledge of content, pedagogy, and student learning; assist teachers in developing instructional and conceptual synergy between science and mathematics; and help teachers create a collaborative reflective dialog.

JOB DESCRIPTION

- Provide in-class support for K-5 mathematics teachers through teaching model lessons, co-teaching, and providing "critical-friend" observations and comments to classroom teachers
- Lead collegial support meetings to build a community of reflective discourse
- Provide support to teams of teachers in Lesson Study sessions
- Lead school year and summer professional development workshops
- Provide organizational support to project director
- Serve as liaison to principals and parents
- Support teacher leaders
- Represent the district at meetings and conferences

QUALIFICATIONS

- At least four years of successful classroom experience with Investigations
- Strong mathematics background
- Demonstrated success leading professional development with standards-based mathematics curriculum
- Knowledge of research-based professional development practices
- Knowledge of current research on successful school reform strategies
- Strong presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with adult learners
- Strong writing skills

The Math Staff Developer position will be funded for one more year through the Critical MASS project, a Local Systemic Change project (LSC) funded by NSF. However, we will seek additional funds to continue the role.
