This article summarizes the results of the NSDC Middle Grades Initiative and lists the 26 programs (including some LSC projects) identified by NSDC as boosting student learning in middle school. According to NSDC, these programs all met four main criteria: "Demonstrate improved student achievement; Include a well-defined staff development program; Include content-specific staff development for middle school teachers which is designed to improve teachers' content knowledge and pedagogical skills; and Occur at multiple schools or within a district, state, or region."
