Our first summer institute skimmed the surface of teachers' search for adult level science content. Teachers wanted more than a walk through and a talk through the units. They wanted adult level content.
Working with our science partners from the University of Washington, Boeing, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Institute, the Project Director and Resource Teachers reviewed the units for conceptual strands. Using the AAAS Benchmarks, five seminars were developed with scientists and resource teachers. Each two and one half hour seminar runs for five days.
How to provide teachers with multi-tiered professional development is a pressing issue.
